David Ellis McMillan, " DaddyMac", 92, of New Prospect passed away peacefully on January 8, 2015. He was born March 21, 1922, the sixth child born to Jesse Clifton and Sally Carson McMillin. He is survived by the love of his life for 71 years, Ruth Ravan McMillan. He is also survived by children, Joyce and John W. Cox of Holly Springs, Harry R. and Cathy McMillan of New Prospect; grandchildren, Rita Cox Smith of New Prospect, Gina and Grant Bumgarner of Travelers Rest, Amy and Robert Bradley of Charleston, SC, Jesse and Elizabeth McMillan of Norcross, GA, Andrew and Shelly McMillan of Holly Springs; one great-granddaughter Elyse Sheperd McMillan, of Norcross, GA. He is survived by a sister, Sara McMillin Trout, and a brother, Joe McMillin, of Inman. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, William "Bill" McMillin, Margaret McMillin Wingo, Edith McMillin Strong, Paul McMillin, Catherine McMillin Settle, and Peggy McMillin Trout. Mr. McMillan attended New Prospect School and graduated in the class of 1941, where he was a star basketball player and later a basketball referee. He passed his love of basketball on to his children and grandchildren. During his life he was a dairy and peach farmer, and had a long career at Lyman Mills. He later worked as a licensed builder and raised beef cattle. Mr. McMillan was a life-long member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Deacon and Sunday school teacher. For many years after his retirement, he faithfully visited the sick and shut-ins of New Prospect Church and surrounding communities. Services will be Saturday, January 10, 2015, at New Prospect Baptist Church with Reverend Matthew Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 with services to follow at 3:00. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home.
