Charles E. Vanover, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of God went to his heavenly home on June 18, 2026 at the age of 90, following a fierce and courageous battle with pneumonia.
Charles was born on June 6, 1936 to Estes and Nora Vanover. He grew up in Clintwood, VA and graduated from Clintwood High School, where he met the love of his life and wife of more than 70 years, Ruby. They were married while Charles was serving in the US Air Force, where he studied Airborne Electronics in the USAFI before being stationed in Germany. Upon his return, Charles served at Warner Robins Air Force Base before moving to South Carolina, where he began his career with Friedman's Jewelers. His roles included Store Manager and Regional Manager, supervising stores across four states, before retiring from Friedman's after more than 38 years of service.
Charles was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was an avid student of the Bible and enjoyed teaching Bible classes, sharing his faith with others, and preaching. He baptized numerous friends and family over the years and was one of the founding members of the congregation at the Boiling Springs Church of Christ. His life was a testimony to Christian faith and he was fiercely devoted to both church and family.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruby and their three children: David Vanover (Susan Arnold), Gary Vanover (Betsy), and Valerie Davis (Tim); eight grandchildren: Brandon, Travis, Brittany, Mitchell, Daniel, and Bradley Vanover and Tanner and Blake Davis; and four great-grandchildren: Ella, Adam, Eli, and Harper Vanover.
