Charles Frederick Garrett of Inman SC died January 14,
2010 at RoseCrest Retirement Community, where he lived.
"Fred" was born November 1, 1914 in Sallisaw Oklahoma. He was the son of Wesley C. Garrett and Jeanette L. Garrett.
His wife, Mable H. Garrett, died August 12,2004 after 68 years of marriage. Mr. Garrett is survived by his daughters, Mariana Warner of Sedona, AZ and Elaine Collins and her husband, Dr. Chester Collins, of Landrum SC. Also surviving are his five grandchildren: John Frederick Bell of St. Louis MO, Natalie Hagen of Madison WI, Paul Collins of Billings MT, Jeffrey Garrett Collins of Boone NC and Dr. Andrew Collins of Charlottesville VA. In addition, he had twelve great grandchildren: Emily, Jennifer and Natalie Bell; Bryant, Lauren and Leanne Hagen; Ian, Benjamin Garrett Collins, Finley, Shannon and Jonas Collins. Kristen Bell, another great-granddaughter, died in infancy in 1996.
Also surviving are two brothers: Paul F. Garrett of Palo Alto, CA and Robert D. Garrett of San Diego, CA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garrett was graduated from Columbus University School of Accountancy, Washington D.C. in 1943.
In 1955, he earned his master's degree in accountancy at Catholic University in Washington D.C. He was a Special Agent with the FBI, serving that agency in many locales over his work career. After retiring from the FBI, he learned Spanish and then worked another two years for the US Agency for International Development, living in Panama and traveling throughout Central and South America.

Mr. Garrett and his wife, Mable, traveled in their trailer extensively in the US and Canada following retirement. He began painting when in his sixties and also enjoyed friends, playing bridge and being with family. Christian worship was his lifelong practice; he enjoyed Bible study and hymn singing.

A memorial service honoring Mr. Garrett's life will be held Sunday January 17, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 500 Oak Grove Road, Spartanburg, SC. with Pastor Ray Hellings presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
