Cecil Edward Gibbs, 89, of 870 Settle Rd. died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at Regional Hospice House in Spartanburg. He was the husband of Ailene Whitehead Gibbs for 67 years. He was a native of Newport, Tenn. and was the son of the late Alfred and Minnie Morgan Gibbs. He had retired from Mayfair Mills after 45 years of service, He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the Arch Lynch Sunday School Class, the Young At Hearts and a former usher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four grandsons, Tommy McCall, Jr., Tim McCall, Toby McCall, and Tracy McCall, two granddaughters, Teresa Matyas and Tammy McCall Graham, and 17 greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, two brothers, two daughters, Patricia Varner and Martha McCall and a grandson, Terry Varner.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at 2:00 P. M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Monty King and Toby McCall conducting the services. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church social hall. The family has requested a closed casket and a private interment.
