Carlos Edwin Byrd

Inman, SC---Mr. Carlos Edwin Byrd, 91, of 1150 Wilkins Road, passed away, on Monday, February 8th, 2010 at the Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg.
Born in Barney, Georgia on February 24, 1918 he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Sarah Jane (Folsom) Byrd and was the husband of Thelma (Rogers) Byrd having celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Mr. Byrd was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Textile Engineering, served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a survivor of the USS Yorktown (CV-5). He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Dr. Roger Byrd and his wife Dr. Jill Blacharsh of Albuquerque, N.M., Randy Byrd and his wife Debbie of Pepperell, Massachusetts, and Michael Dane Byrd and his wife Sherilyn of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Cory Byrd, Sarah Byrd, Rion Byrd and Caroline Byrd and one great grandchild, August Simmons; one sister, Ann Alderman of San Diego, California; one brother Lane Byrd of Barney, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 3:00PM at New Prospect Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald Gaddy and Rev Bill Harris officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to: Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
