Candace Diane Brown, 72 of Spartanburg died September 12, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. She was born March 5, 1949 in Pacolet, South Carolina to her parents, Carolyn and Lewis Valentine. She married David Allan Brown on August 20, 1972.
She is predeceased by her husband, David and her parents, Carolyn and Lewis. Candy is survived by her brother, Lewis Scott Valentine (Theresa) of Oregon and her two sons, Dylan Carter Brown (Sharon) of Virginia and Toby Scott Brown (Natascha) of South Carolina. Candy is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Artemis, Page, and Amara.
Candy was a loving caregiver to everyone with whom she was connected. She was an English major at Carson-Newman and worked at The Herald Journal in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Candy also worked at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind and as a substitute teacher. Her lifelong love of the written word never ended. She spent countless hours pouring over her many Bibles and reading her grandchildren's poetry. Candy enjoyed teaching others and taught piano lessons and sign language to her grandchildren. She was a hands-on grandmother who picked up her grandchildren from school, attended every function they were in, and engaged their minds in religion, literature, and love. She loved to make others laugh and feel comfortable. Candy had a vigorous intellect and enjoyed reading sci-fi and religious texts. Candy enjoyed playing with her cats, sewing, crocheting, gardening and drinking a hot cup of Earl Grey. She was not attached to earthly belongings and valued her time with friends, family and God.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church located at 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers please donate to your local humane society.
