Orion H. "Butch" Sain, Jr.
Due West, S.C.
Orion H. "Butch" Sain, Jr., 74, went to his heavenly home on November 29, 2015. Born October 5, 1941 to the late Orion H. "Curly" Sain, Sr. and Irene Massey Sain of Fort Mill, SC. He was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and Erskine College, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the VietNam conflict. He was employed by several companies as an auditor until he decided to open his own businesses in Due West; Sain;s Gulf Station and Sain's Sporting Goods. Cars and dogs were his interest so he became a car salesman as well as raising and training German Shepherd Dogs.
He was elected Mayor of Due West in 1997, where he served for 10 years. One of his main objectives was to establish a close relationship between the Town of Due West and Erskine College, which he was able to do. During the years a street-scape to beautify the area was completed, a new Dollar General Store and Subway moved into town; The Commercial Bank and the Due West Fire Department moved into new buildings. The fire department was named The Butch Sain Complex. Butch was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church; he lived his life serving God and making others around him happy. During his lifetime he served as Youth Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and the Superintendent of Sunday Schools. He was a charter member of the Due West Lion's Club where he served as president 2002-2003. Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Vicki Culbreth Sain; a sister, Judith Sain Fewell (Bob); and a brother, Donald Lee Sain (Lynn); a brother in law, Ronnie Culbreth and a sister in law, Joy Culbreth Myers; four nephews, Donald and Scott Sain, Scott Dotherow, Casey Culbreth; and one neice, Mitzi Dotherow Troxell; and a very special caregiver and family friend, Kim Patterson.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman, S.C. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel conducted by Rev. Jan Brittain Donnahue and Rev. Tom Brittain.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 10, 2015 at The Renaissance in Due West, S.C.
