Campobello, SC--Mr. Burnise Newton Mathis, 58, of 200 North Cassidy Way, Campobello passed away Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC.

Mr. Mathis was born in Spartanburg, SC on April 4, 1951, the son of the late Willie Newton and Minnie Louise (Seagle) Mathis and was the husband of Alice (Shelton) Mathis having just celebrated 38 years of marriage.
He is survived by a daughter: Wendy Fisher and husband Jason of Campobello, a son: Brian Mathis and wife Kristi of Wellford, a brother: Joe Edward Mathis and wife Linda of Cowpens, 3 grandchildren: Carson and Ethan Fisher and Mason Mathis. He was predeceased by 3 brothers: Raymond Ray Mathis, Johnny James Mathis and Billy Hugh Mathis.
He was president of Upstate Heating and Air-Conditioning Inc. and attended Lake Cooley Baptist Church in Wellford. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam War.

The family is at the home and will receive friends Thursday 6:00 - 8:00 PM. at Lake Cooley Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Lake Cooley Baptist Church, Wellford, SC, at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 1st, with Rev. Mark Cannon and Rev Donnan Lawson officiating.


Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites and Military Honors, Inman, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lake Cooley Baptist Church Building Fund, 2591 Ballenger Rd, Wellford, SC 29385.
