Billy Ray "Tiny" Bateman, 51, of 571 Grand Canyon Road, Inman, SC, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Tiny was born in Modesto, CA on May 28, 1963, a son of the late John Bateman and Carolyn (Broom) Hill and stepfather, James Hill and was the husband of Sharon (Ravan) Bateman. He served in the U.S. Navy as a aviation boatswain mate on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower and was a veteran of foreign war in the Beirut Lebanon Crisis. He was formerly employed at Inman-Campobello Water District and was youth pastor at Motlow Creek Baptist Church and Holly Springs Baptist Church. He also served for over 10 years as junior high youth pastor at First Baptist Church North Spartanburg. Tiny served as a youth counselor for the South Carolina Baptist Convention, Spartanburg County Baptist Network and various churches in Spartanburg County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg and attended Stable Life Worship Center. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Briana Rhea Bateman, two sons Ashton P Bateman, Grayson W Bateman, all of the home. He is also survived by father in law, Ray Ravan, mother in law, Minnie Ravan, both of Inman, half sister, Pam Teel, half brother, Lance Bateman, both of Oklahoma, brother in law, Vince Brown, sister in law, Dianne Brown, of Inman, nieces, Summer Arias, Kelly Taylor, nephew, Corey Brown, Carson Teal, Trevor Teel, great nephews, Jaden, Tyler and Lincoln, great nieces, Isabella, Carsyn and Olivia, his special Christian family, Amanda and Eli Calloway and Liza J. Chapman. Other survivors include his special family in California, Harold and Dot Moore, Kirk and Melinda Wood, Samantha and Shelby, Roger Moore, Kyle and Michael. The family is in the home of his sister in law, Dianne Brown, 334 Shoreham Lane, Inman and will receive friends Sunday immediately following the service at First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg. A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg, Spartanburg, SC, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 7th, with Dr Michael Hamlet, Rev Shannon Ford, Rev Joe White, Rev Doug Turner, Rev Mark Pangel, Rev Jamie Hammett and Rev Dwayne Morris officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Inman. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Brown, Todd Ussery, Mark Pangel, Jamie Hammett, Timothy Brink, David Calloway, Jeremy Loberger, MD, Jonathan Mathis, Jimmy Fortner and Keith Hoppes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bateman's Buddies C/O Bank of America.
