Betty Woodfin Pope formerly of Gramling, SC passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 in Inman, SC. Mrs. Pope was born in Gramling, SC on June 13, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lida Harris Woodfin. She was the widow of Ray Pope.
Mrs. Pope was employed for many years as a teller in several local banks including the C&S Bank and Nations Bank. She was a faithful and active member of Gramling United Methodist Church and sang in the sanctuary choir for over 68 years. She served in many organizations in the church including the secretary for 40 years and treasurer for 30 years. She also served her community at the Gramling Voting Precinct and was an avid bird watcher and traveler. Mobile Meals was an organization she worked with for years and the American Legion Post 45 Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Tim Pope and his wife Susan of Spartanburg, two sisters Emily Brittain of Spartanburg and Mildred Riddle and her husband Doug of Taylors, SC, two grandchildren, Adam Pope and his wife Sarah of Kansas City, Mo. , Will Pope of Spartanburg and a sister-in-law Faye Woodfin of Gramling, SC. She was predeceased by a son Mark Pope and a brother Dean Woodfin.
Funeral services will be held at Gramling United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 25th, 2013 conducted by Rev. Ben Herlong, Rev. Will Brown, and Mr. Bruce Woodfin. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
