Betty Jayne Mathers, 96, of 735 Waspnest Road, went to her rest in Jesus Sunday, November 8th, at Ashlan Village. The family and friends look forward to a grand reunion on resurrection morning.
Betty was born in Sioux City, Iowa on May 26, 1924, a daughter of the late Ethel Leora Lyons Glew and Lee Oscar Glew. She was the wife of the late Melvin Earl Mathers, who was a school teacher and a pastor in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She was also an elementary school and high school teacher, and had served as the Dean of Women at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, MD, Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, and Union College in Lincoln, NE. Betty was a member of Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her survivors include; a son, Arnet C Mathers and his wife, Judy, of Maine; a daughter, Sonja L Eberhart and her husband, Charles, of Wellford, granddaughters; Ellen Eberhart and her husband, Zi Chen, and SaraJayne Eberhart, a great granddaughter, Rosalina Eberhart, and a great grandson, Nathan Eberhart-Chen, all of North Carolina; grandsons; Jody Prince, Emile Prince, Robin Prince, Stafford Bomester and his wife, Olivia, all of South Africa.
The Mathers family recognizes and gives great thanks to Charles Eberhart for the years of exceptional love and care he has shown to their family, especially for his selfless, sacrificial care for their Momma and Daddy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, November 13 at Spartanburg Seventh-day Adventist Church.
