Betty Lou Gregory Dixon, the matriarch of the Gregory family, died at her home on Briarcreek Drive on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 after a valiant fight with cancer. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her cherished children, grandchildren and sisters. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Felix R. Dixon. She is survived by her children: Rhonda Davidson (Gene), Randall Dixon (Vickie) of Boiling Springs and Rick Dixon (Deb) of Spartanburg. She leaves 5 grandchildren: Anna Vinsett (Marc), Josh, Langlee, Daniel and Alison Dixon. Betty is also survived by three sisters: Carolyn Anderson (Bob), Lurah Pappas (Nick) of Spartanburg and Jo Burrell (Arthur) of Inman. She also leaves behind a very special long time friend, Mattie Mae Morris of Inman. She was predeceased by her parents Horace and Marie Gregory as well as the following siblings: Glenn Gregory (Jessie), Charles Gregory (Evon), Harold Gregory (Myrtle), Billy Gregory (Bea), Lewis Gregory, Blanche Gregory and Sandy Burrell (Rick), all of Inman.
Betty retired from Inman Mills Research Lab. She will be fondly remembered as church pianist for many years at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Inman as well as pianist at Fingerville United Methodist Church. She will also be missed at her Inman High School reunion which she looked forward to each year. She especially enjoyed helping plan and attending the Inman Mill Village Reunion and looked forward to celebrating another. Most certainly she will be missed by her many friends at Parents Without Partners and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary with whom she enjoyed dancing, dressing up in costumes and playing trivia.
Betty's family wishes for you to remember Betty at her best vibrant self, grasp a memory and hold it in your heart as an honor to her. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman. Prior to the visitation , the family will be at their respective homes. At a later date, the family will have a private remembrance celebration with her pastor Rev. Ron Towery and her nephew Rev. Jeff Cochran.
