Betty Jane Abernathy

Betty Jane Abernathy, 84, of 720 Island Ford Rd. Chesnee, South Carolina, passed away on June 6, 2026.

Born in Spartanburg County on April 11, 1942, a daughter of the late Leater (Henderson) Lee and Ben Lee and was the wife of the late Billy James Abernathy.

Betty was of the Methodist faith. She worked hard in the cotton mill as a spinner. She loved to garden and grow beautiful flowers.

She is survived one son, James Abernathy and his wife Shirlene of Inman, South Carolina; one sister, Kathy Overcash and her husband Ralph of Chesnee, South Carolina; two daughters-in-law, Regina Abernathy and Stephanie Pittman; seven grandchildren, Phillip Abernathy (Jennifer), Amanda Abernathy, Molly Abernathy, Tyler Abernathy (Jessica), Jennifer Hartsell (Dallton), Jason Abernathy (Breann) and Lynn White (Tommy); Sixteen great grandchildren, Maddison Abernathy, Hudson Abernathy, Khloe Abernathy, Brylee Ridings, Baylee Ridings, Tristan Ridings, Cole Abernathy, Adley Hartsell, Liam Abernathy, Elaina Abernathy, Auden Abernathy, Nicholas White, Georgia White, Timothy White, Jenna Abernathy and Trevor Abernathy along with one great-great granddaughter, Omaira Faison.

In addtion to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by two sons, Jerry Abernathy and Joe Abernathy; one granddaughter, Savannah Abernathy and one great grand son, Elias Abernathy.
