Arthur Lee Burrell, 89, of 2 Bridges St., passed away Tuesday, June 16th, 2015 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Burrell was born in Pacolet, SC on October 25, 1925, a son of the late Belle (Barnwell) Burrell Hollifield and Columbus Hardin Burrell. He was the beloved husband of Jo Ann (Gregory) Burrell and was a member of the Inman First Free Will Baptist Church. Arthur was a retired truck driver with Gilbert Carriers and enjoyed over 22 years of service. He had a lawnmower repair shop at his home for many years and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. He fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II against the Empire of Japan. After survivng the war, he was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star,
Arthur and Jo loved to spend time in the Tennessee mountains, especially the Pigeon Forge & Cades Cove area.
Survivors include six sons: Randy Burrell and his wife Leigh of Blacksburg, SC, Kenny Burrell of Inman, SC, Terry Burrell and his wife Kathy of Duncan, SC, Jerry Burrell and his wife Deana also of Duncan, SC, Greg Burrell and his wife Donette of Wellford, SC, Jamey Burrell and his wife Tiffany of Spartanburg, SC, two daughters, Kathy Hamlett and her husband Tommy of Simpsonville, SC, Penny Leonard and her husband Eddie of Greer, SC, two brothers, Guy Burrell and his wife Thelma of Inman, SC, Jimmie Hollifield of Spartanburg, SC and a sister, Rosa Lee "Sis" Hollifield Ford and her husband J.R. of Inman, SC. There are 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was predeceased by three brothers, Otis, Claude, and Hardin Burrell and one sister, Pearl Blanton.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Inman Mills Baptist Church at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 18th, 2015 conducted by Rev. Jeff Cochran and Mr. Randy Burrell. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Inman Mills Baptist Church, Family Life Center Fund, 22 B St., Inman, SC 29349.
