Annie Lee "Gennie" Reaves Messer, 90, of 59 Blackstock Road, Inman, SC, formerly of 20 F Street, Inman passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Camp Care Nursing Home in Inman after an extended illness. Annie was born in Inman, SC on July 30, 1922, a daughter of the late Fannie Mae (Camp) and Carl Reaves.
She was the widow of Marion Andrew "Buck" Messer, who cared for her so faithfully since 1964, when she was involved in a near fatal car accident, until his death in 2003. She retired because of disability from Inman Mills in 1964 and was a homemaker from then on. She was a long time member of Inman Mills Baptist Church, a member of Inman American Legion Post #45 Auxiliary, a Gold Star Mother and a 1940 graduate of Inman High School. Gennie was a gourmet cook and was famous for her Christmas fruitcakes. She also made the best pimento cheese ever. Annie is survived by four daughters, Marie Blackwell (Lee), Judy Higgins, Debbie Bailey (Dale), Cindy Messer, one sister, Susie Coley, all of Inman. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Tina Barton, Sam Messer, Tammie Messer, Darryl Blackwell, Michael Blackwell, Alison Higgins Bradley, Heather Higgins Carswell, Chad Bailey, Ashley Bailey Sims, five great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. She was predeceased by two sons, Jack and Jerry Messer, two sisters, Lillie Mae Huggins and Edna Bradley, three brothers, Bill, Ray, and John Carl Reaves, Jr., one grandson, William Melton, son of Cindy Messer, one granddaughter, Brandie Bailey and son in law Joel Higgins. The family is at the home of her daughter, Judy Higgins, 484 Turpin Rd, Inman and will receive friends, Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Seawright Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, 2013 at Inman Mills Baptist Church at 2:00 PM conducted by Rev Jack Hames. Serving as pallbearers will be Darryl Blackwell, Michael Blackwell, Sam Messer, Tommy Bradley, Chad Bailey, Jordan Bailey and Jarred Sims. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers at Camp Care, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills and visits from her church family.
