Ailene Whitehead Gibbs, 99, of 63 Blackstock Road Inman, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Magnolia Manor of Inman. Ailene was born in Oconee, S.C. on January 8, 1919, a daughter of the late Henry H. and Mary Owens Whitehead. She was the widow of Cecil E. Gibbs with 67 years of marriage.
She worked in textiles over twenty years, had worked as a caregiver, and was a retired manager of the Salvation Army Thrift Store. She was formerly a member of Arcadia Baptist Church for over 40 years where she was a teacher and Girl Scout leader; for the past several years, she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by her grandchildren; Teresa Matyas and her son, Michael, Tommy McCall, Tim McCall, Toby McCall, Tracy McCall, Tammy Graham; a son in law, Tommy McCall and his wife Dianne; seventeen great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by two daughters; Martha McCall, Patricia Varner; and a grandson, Terry Varner. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, Wellford, at 4:00pm on Tuesday, March 27th, with Mr. Toby McCall and Mr. Tim McCall officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern Children's Home PO Box 339 Duncan, SC 29334.
